Advent Calendar Poem #7: Snow Tunes

Snow is falling
it’s cold enough to settle
at minus 1 on the mercury
but it doesn’t stop
the brass band on the corner
playing classic carols
for all to enjoy
I find myself singing along
to The Holly and The Ivy
and it feels like Christmas
in my soul.

Thanks for reading the poem for day 7 of the Advent Calendar of Poems.

What’s your favourite classic carol?

Let me know in the comments…

A Lament

The sky shows no blue today
	only        the 		dullness
                 of     burnt     steel
                          brittle   cracks   form
       drizzle falls
                    lying static       in        the      air
tears to mourn an unwell world
         even the gulls are silent in respect.

Thanks for taking the time to read what is a sombre poem.
I hope you're well and having a great January so far. It feels like it has lasted forever.

Advent Calendar Haiku #19

Welcome to day nineteen of the Haiku Advent Calendar. I hope you’re all well. The days are going by too quickly.

I’ve donned a Christmas jumper to take part in the regular writing group I attend today so I’m festive and warm, like a good mulled wine or cider.

Now for today’s haiku…

Starlings murmur like
prudes gossiping on bare trees;
the air is frozen.

Thanks for reading and joining me today. If you missed it I was part of the cast of the Christmas Episode of Eat The Storms Poetry Podcast yesterday if you want something to listen to today. The Spotify link is below;

Advent Calendar Haiku #13

Welcome to day thirteen of the Haiku Advent Calendar and the start of a fresh week.

I hope you’re weekend was fun, we put up the tree, had some mulled wine and mince pies and watched an episode of Only Fools and Horses. Cushty!!!

Today’s haiku is…

We startled the doe,
boots crunching through frozen leaves;
tender snowflakes fall.

Thanks and remember to come back tomorrow for your next installment of the Haiku Advent Calendar.

Advent Calendar Haiku #8

Where is the time going? It’s day eight of the Haiku Advent Calendar and I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already.

Today’s haiku was written in annoyance that no matter how hard I try I am sometimes (actually oftentimes) clumsy such as breakfast today.

So without further ado…

My Nordic jumper
is stained with clementine juice;
sleet flurries outside.

Have you had any mishaps so far this December? Let me know.

Looking Through The Window

On Wednesday morning
with my eyes closed
I looked through the window
and listened –  to –
the natural percussion
of pouring rain
drumming
against mottled flagstones
creating a cacophony of calm
in the storm of my mind
not quite serenity
but not far off.

I hoped you enjoyed reading this poem. Feel free to have a look at my other work or leave a comment if you wish.
