The star on our tree
glints with pearlescence
a beacon of hope
in the evening glow
of the Christmas lights
Thanks for taking the time to read my poem today as part of the advent calendar. I hope your Monday has been successful!

Frosted rooftops glinting
in the lazy low winter sun
tiny footprints of the blackbird
stand frozen in time
if only for a moment
the chimneys sigh
giving the milky blue sky
its only clouds for the day
the stillness feels safe
the stillness feels peaceful
the stillness feels hopeful.
I can’t believe it’s already December 10th. Only two more weeks worth of poems in this years advent calendar. Have you had chance to read many of the collection so far?
Have a fantastically festive weekend,
Paul
The strawberry patch in full bloom scarlet gems ripe with summer’s flavour under the dewy heat of the sun they are temptation a picture of beauty yet hide an ugly truth for the red jewels have hidden chips and cracks botched heists by starlings, swifts and finches my treasure lost for another year.

Brothers and sister, strangers and friends, like a sad smile on lips - hope can be heavy. Let us sit and talk, of better times gone by, of better times to come. If you are weary - lay your head on my broad shoulders, and let the hope that built them, cushion your hearts and minds. When darkness descends, I’ll light a candle, to burn it away - even the slightest flicker of flame, can illuminate the way ahead. Before you leave, please share this embrace, feel strength through unity, and let that carry you onwards. Return any time you wish, you will always have a place here, in my heart and in my soul, I know that hope can be heavy - but you don’t carry it alone.

Thanks for taking the time to read my poem today. I hope wherever you are, you are safe. Let our unity endure.
Thanks
Paul
The platform is wet from last nights rain but this morning the sun has wove threads of gold sewing itself to the soft cloud a handful of people smile at tiny escaping strands of light the look of hope on their faces scores of others turn away looking down cheekbones rigid with anguish a reminder of the darkness in their life and I’m people watching wondering what type of person will sit next to me on today’s journey.
Thanks for taking the time to read this poem. It’s my first piece of 2022, I’ve been mega busy.

Instead of sleep
in the early hours
I sit and listen to the
siren song of the starlings and finches
at four am
they gather on the dew-kissed fencetops
when the delicate new day
is climbing from grey earth
to sherbet-pink sky
and I wonder what’s to come
in the next 19 hours
before my head hits the pillow
because – although most days are the same –
like the dawn chorus
everyday is different.

The encouragement
of an ochre sunrise
delivering the day
subtly and slowly
floods my soul
with the sensation
of contentment
the belief of opportunity
to live better than yesterday
to improve our world
through words and actions
loving more and loathing less
being kinder by choice
not necessity.
And when the lipstick sunset
kisses the sky
i want it to be with passionate pride
rather than pity and pain.
I hope you enjoyed reading this, if you did, you can check out my other pieces.
I long for the day
when the apricot sunrise
looks at the world
and feels only pleasure
rather than pity.
I await the evening
when the blushing sunset
kisses the world
feeling satisfied
in place of sorrow.
I hope for the night
when the moon
illuminates our souls
the glow melting
her morose melancholy
so she can experience
the true warmth of love.
